A biopic movie (contraction for true to life movie), is a film that sensationalizes the existence of a non-anecdotal or truly based individual or individuals. Such movies show the existence of an authentic individual and the focal character’s genuine name is utilized. The film is based on the life of an Indian cricketer and the former captain of the Indian national cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Neerja, a biopic drama on the life of Neerja Bhanot played by Sonam Kapoor, directed by Ram Madhvani, and produced by Fox Star Studios and Bling Unplugged. Neerja is the courageous story of a 23-year-old girl – an air hostess – who lost her life while saving passengers from terrorists on board the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 on 5th September 1986. Chronicling the meteoric rise and steep fall of the erstwhile screen sensation – Silk Smitha, ‘The Dirty Picture’ is set against the colourful and entertaining backdrop of the South film industry of the ’80s. 6- Manto
Manto starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, directed by Nandita Das. Manto the film follows the most tumultuous four years in the life of Manto and that of the two countries he inhabits – India and Pakistan. In Bombay’s seedy-shiny film world, Manto and his stories are widely read and accepted. But as sectarian violence engulfs the nation, Manto makes the difficult choice of leaving his beloved Bombay.
In Lahore, he finds himself bereft of friends and unable to find takers for his writings. His increasing alcoholism leads him into a downward spiral. The Mountain Man, releasing on August 21st, 2015. A film by Ketan Mehta starring versatile actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in and as Manjhi along with Radhika Apte playing his beloved wife, this biopic is the story of an ordinary man who performed the extraordinary.
9- Dangal
Dangal is an extraordinary true story based on the life of Mahavir Singh and his two daughters, Geeta and Babita Phogat. The film traces the inspirational journey of a father who trains his daughters to become world-class wrestlers.
10- Bandit Queen
The movie tells the story of the bandit queen Phoolan Devi who was sent to prison in 1983 and got free in 1994. During five years she was prosecuted by the Indian police and turned into a legend (like a modern Robin Hood) by the Indian press. Although the press tended to make her the optimal hero with blue eyes, dark hair, being tall and beautiful she was, in reality, an average Indian which makes it hard for the movie to fulfil the expectations of the audience and tell the truth at the same time. Later in her life, She entered into politics and was assassinated in 2001.
